Carve Out Time for You
It’s easy to get bombarded with life, leaving ourselves with little time to participate in activities we so greatly enjoy. The author of the Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff Series, Richard Carlson always notes that you need to carve out at least 15 minutes during the day for something you enjoy. It’s how we keep our sanity.
Now, it’s understandable that you can’t always write this into your calendar, but it can become part of your daily routine, to the point where you have dedicated this time to yourself. I like to make sure my kids are in bed by a specific time, which gives me time to relax and do any preparation for the upcoming day in silence. I can read, listen to music, or watch something on tv.
I have friends that get up before their kids to have a peaceful morning before the day gets too crazy, and I have others that like to have a quiet reading time in their house, where everyone goes to a designated area where there is a quiet time in force.
However it works for you, it is important that you do have some time for yourself. My days were so crammed with tasks and a commute, that I used to make sure I used that time to talk to my friends, listen to books on tape or inspirational speakers, to help give me time while I was driving. Now, this wasn’t ideal, but I had to make the best of the time that I had, and I did function much better when I used this time wisely.
It’s important that we take care of oursleves, spiritually, emotionally, physicaly and mentally. If we’re not 100% feeling well, we can’t invest that 100% into others either.
Have a blessed day.
